Kuwait is set to witness a groundbreaking theatrical experience with the launch of “Waterland,” the Arab world’s first water musical theater production, officially opening on Thursday, 14 May 2026, at the Kuwait Sports Club Aquatic Complex in Kaifan.

Taking place on and within Kuwait’s largest Olympic-sized swimming pool, “Waterland” is a youth-focused musical entertainment production presented in a unique water-based environment unlike anything previously seen in the region. The show is directed by Mohammed Al-Musallam and produced by Orion Group after nearly nine years of development and planning.

“Waterland” is a purpose-driven, family-oriented production that combines live acting, aerial acrobatics, dynamic water performances, and advanced visual effects within an immersive theatrical setting. The production transforms the Olympic pool into a spectacular stage experience enhanced by synchronized lighting systems, immersive sound technologies, illuminated waterfalls, and a large-scale water curtain.

At the center of the production is a transparent submerged stage where scenes unfold both above and beneath the water surface, creating a visually striking theatrical atmosphere. Behind the stage stands a massive textured structure featuring 3D projection mapping, complemented by one of the largest lighting systems ever used in a local theater production. Spanning across a 50-meter-wide Olympic pool, the scale of the project delivers an unprecedented level of visual drama and audience immersion.

The project also serves as a cultural initiative designed to empower young talent and elevate the local entertainment industry through innovative performance arts and advanced theater technology. “Waterland” aims to provide emerging performers with a professional creative platform while offering meaningful and engaging family entertainment for audiences of all ages.

The production features a distinguished cast of established and emerging talents led by Mohammed Al-Musallam alongside Mohammed Al-Rushaid, Hanadi Al-Kanderi, Hussein Al-Mahdi, Raghad, Areej Al-Attar, Mohammed Eyad, Ramadan Eyad, Ahmed Bin Hussain, Aziz Al-Enzi, Najla Al-Buloushi, and Abdullah Al-Khuder.

“Waterland” is brought to life by a distinguished creative team, with concept and direction by Mohammed Hussein Al-Musallam, screenplay by Prof. Hussein Al-Musallam, writing by Anfal Al-Qallaf, and music production, mixing, and mastering by Sohaib Al-Awadhi. The visual identity of the show is shaped through scenography by Hassan Al-Mulla, costume design by Iman Al-Saif, lighting design by Fadel Al-Nassar, choreography by Fahad Al-Farhan, and technical direction by Dr. Hussein Al-Hassan.

Additional creative contributions include music arrangement by Talal Al-Eidan, lyrics by Abdullah Al-Omani, graphic design by Ali Reda, poster design by Abdullah Hamada, makeup by Sara Fadel, accessories by Sundus Al-Butti, and water project development by Mohammed Al-Musallam and Mohammed Eyad.

“Waterland” marks a major milestone for Kuwait’s entertainment sector, positioning the country as the home of the Arab world’s first large-scale water theater production.
